#15 – May 2024 – End of month report

Bad, bad, bad!

There is one piece of good news this month: we have not broken the bank! And if that’s not me looking at the glass half full, I don’t know what is.

Anyways, the portfolio is well out of the grid on the upper side. There has been little or no trading all month, and during the two central weeks, there was a dividend distribution which, in the case of shorting exposure, means a fee levied on the portfolio. All in all, this translates to the first month of unrealized portfolio drop in more than a year, a whopping -1.65%. The unrealized portfolio gain for the year remains in double digits, but the profitability of the copies is largely dictated by the point in time when the copy was started, so these numbers may or may not make a lot of sense for your investment.

To close this sad monthly report, let’s cheer ourselves up with the prospect of nuclear armageddon, the fact that wars are popping up everywhere like mushrooms in the fall, election uncertainties around the world, and a potential recession that has been four months away for at least two years. What I mean is that there is plenty on the horizon to justify a probable return of the index to more salubrious levels. In the meantime, let’s just sit patiently and wait for events to unfold.

Instead of my customary “good trading” farewell, I’ll offer a “keep calm and trade on” one 😉
